Sept 8 Event: International Literacy Day

Today’s Focus: Understanding International Literacy Day

Hello Far Away Friends Club members!

As we dive into September, mark your calendars for September 8th – a day celebrated globally as International Literacy Day. This day holds immense significance in our mission to bridge educational gaps between students in the USA and rural Uganda.

Step 1: Grasping International Literacy Day

Begin your club meeting by introducing International Literacy Day. Discuss its global observance and its impact on education, empowerment, and societal growth.

Step 2: Discussion - Linking Literacy with Equity

Discuss with your members how literacy connects with education equity. How does improved literacy foster opportunities and enhance quality of life? How does it affect global poverty and climate change?

Step 3: Students as Literacy Promoters - Poster Making

Discuss students' pivotal role in promoting literacy. Make a few posters to hang around school educating your peers about global illiteracy, and how the Far Away Friends Club is helping make an impact at your Sister School.

Let's celebrate International Literacy Day not just in reflection, but in action. By empowering through education, we're fostering growth and change. Your commitment to literacy and education equity is a driving force for a brighter future.
