Empowering Change: Jack Bancroft's Journey in Uganda and How You Can Make a Difference

This understanding of much needed medical care on basic levels in developing nations will help me become a better physician.

In a world where compassion and empathy can transcend borders, Jack Bancroft’s (University of South Florida, ‘27) incredible journey to Uganda serves as a testament to the power of young people to generate real-world, positive change. As a high school student and part of the Schools for Schools (Global Citizens) Club at his school, Jack's Cultural Immersion Trip to Uganda this past June opened his eyes to a world of possibilities where he could make a tangible impact. Today, we invite you to walk in his footsteps and discover how you, too, can be a force for good by joining our Schools for Schools program or participating in an unforgettable Cultural Immersion Trip.

Bridging Cultures, Empowering Communities: "In continuation of service as President of my high school chapter of Far Away Friends, I had an experience of a lifetime during my two-week Cultural Immersion Trip to Uganda this summer as a USF Bull. Because of my 4 years of involvement and passion with this 501c3 nonprofit organization, I felt I could be valuable in [helping to] equip youth in rural Uganda with the tools to break cycles of poverty."

Through living with the locals and witnessing their daily challenges with finances, education, and health, Jack gained valuable insights into the resilience and joy that define the people of Amolatar, Uganda. He reflected, "I experienced the universal joy of children playing, learning, and growing."

Real-World Applications: Jack, an aspiring med student, was also able to shadow our school nurse and spend time understanding some of the health challenges experienced by our students on a daily basis.

“The skills, information and experiences gained during my trip to Uganda will definitely help me on my pathway to becoming a physician. Among my various experiences in Uganda, I observed and assisted the nurse in the GLP Health Clinic for testing of malaria and pregnancy in school children, and I observed the treatment of children diagnosed with malaria and other illnesses with antibiotics and intravenous fluid. This understanding of much needed medical care on basic levels in developing nations will help me become a better physician.”

Inspiration and Action: Witnessing the transformative impact of Far Away Friends in the lives of thousands of children in Uganda, Jack is resolute in his commitment to keep the momentum going. He declares, "I will continue to work with Far Away Friends, because they have proven value in improving the lives of thousands of children in Uganda." Driven by his passion for change, Jack is determined to make a lasting difference in the lives of the Ugandan students he connected with during his immersion trip. He knows that the key to a brighter future lies in education, healthcare, and community support. He shared, “I will return to my high school to talk about my experience and the need for caring about communities worldwide."
