An Open Letter to Our Donors

To Our Advocates, Friends and Family,

Thank you for your kindness and generosity in 2022. Your support has made a significant difference in the lives of so many students and community members. We are deeply moved by your commitment to educational equity and to making a real difference in the world.

This year has been a truly transformative one for Global Leaders Primary School (GLP) and the community we serve, and we are grateful to have you as a part of our Far Away Friends family. Some of our notable achievements include:

  • Welcomed back students after nearly two years out of school due to COVID-19, and enrolled 500 students, doubling our student body

  • GLP boys soccer team won their district competition and will move on to the next level in the league next year!

  • Music, dance, and drama program won their district competition and placed 7th in regionals

  • Solarized four health clinics in partnership with Let There Be Light International and Solar Health Uganda, impacting over 4,000 community members each month

  • Provided 150 portable solar lamps to new mothers through the Safe Births + Healthy Homes initiative

  • Provided AfriPad Kits containing a year's worth of reusable sanitary pads to 500 girls across our six partner schools, accompanied by trainings and girls empowerment workshops led by Ugandan women leaders

  • Launched Skills for Life curriculum in six schools, impacting 2,000 students, with teachers seeing a reduction in absences and students more engaged in their lessons

We are proud to report that these programs have had a significant impact on the lives of our students and on reducing cycles of generational poverty in rural Uganda.

Our AfriPads distribution that you helped fund, for example, has helped to increase girls' attendance and research has shown that increasing girls' access to education can significantly reduce poverty and improve outcomes for students, their families and the wider community.

Our Skills for Life curriculum has also had a positive impact on attendance rates and has equipped students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in school and beyond.

In addition, by partnering with other industry leaders, the solarization of health clinics across our district has brought vital healthcare services to underserved communities, improving access to medical care and reducing the burden of illness and disease. The portable solar lamps provided to new mothers have also helped to improve maternal and infant health by providing a safe source of light for mothers and their infants.

Overall, these programs have had a significant impact on the lives of our students and the wider community, and they wouldn’t have been possible without YOUR support. Your generosity and commitment to educational equity have helped to improve resources and bring new opportunities to so many students and families in the Amolatar District, and we are truly grateful to have you as a part of our Far Away Friends family.

Thank you for your continued generosity and commitment to making a real difference in the world by leveling the playing field for kids living in the most far away communities. Your kindness has made all of this possible, and we are forever grateful.

With The Biggest Love,

Jayme, Collines, Kaitlyn, Ritah, Robert, Tony & The Far Away Friends Team
