Global Leaders Primary School
Far Away Friends is dedicated to closing the education gap and providing children in rural communities with the same quality of education as their urban counterparts. In 2016, we opened Global Leaders Primary School (GLP) in the Amolatar region of Uganda, and since then, we are providing direct access to high quality education for 500 students per year from pre-k through 7th grade with the help of over 30 local teachers and school support staff. This also includes access to safe housing, daily meals, and mentorship We are proud to report that 100% of our Primary 7 students have passed their Primary Leaving Exams in the top two highest divisions since 2018, a testament to the high quality of education we provide at GLP.
EQUITABLE EDUCATION ACCESS
Skills for Life
EQUITABLE EDUCATION ACCESS
Skills for Life is a comprehensive curriculum designed to improve attendance and graduation rates in schools, with a particular focus on reducing teen pregnancy and drop out rates in rural Uganda. Developed in partnership with education leaders in the community, this program contains hundreds of research-based lessons that are proven to reduce absenteeism and increase student engagement. Since its launch in June, our Skills for Life program has impacted 200 students across six schools in Amolatar District and has already shown promising results with a significant reduction in absence rates. By providing students with the tools they need to succeed and make informed decisions about their futures, we are confident that Skills for Life will help reduce the rates of teenage pregnancy and dropouts in rural Uganda.
Schools for Schools
Our Schools for Schools program builds capacity in rural schools through global friendship and collaboration. "Sister Schools" in the USA partner with schools in rural Uganda to fuel development projects, provide resources like AfriPads, desks and books, renovate classrooms, and reduce teenage pregnancy and drop out rates through fueling a multi-year Skills for Life course at each of their partner schools. Empower your students to make a difference in their own communities and beyond through cultural exchange and understanding. Join us in building capacity in rural schools! EQUITABLE EDUCATION + GLOBAL CONNECTION
Community Development
EQUIPPING KIDS & FAMILIES WITH RESOURCES
Our Community Resource Development program is focused on improving resources that impact kids and families. By investing in the development of community resources that impact the lives of children, we are helping parents and caregivers to raise happy, healthy future leaders. We work in partnership with village, sub-county, and district-level leaders to identify health centers that primarily serve women and children, and we provide both materials, trainings, and infrastructure development to increase their capacity to serve patients. In addition, we collaborate with Let There Be Light International to make our solarization projects possible, ensuring that communities have access to sustainable and reliable sources of electricity. Join us in improving resources and making a positive impact on the lives of children and families.
